daab appointed for the low-energy retrofit of historic cottage.

daab have been appointed for the low-energy refurbishment and extension of a historic cottage on the Isle of Man.

Working with the consultant team and opening early discussions with suppliers we are studying the potential for an energy self-sufficient building using principles of a high-performing building fabric coupled with passive solar gain and renewable on-site energy production.

We are exploring options for the use of more sustainable materials including modular straw bale construction, limecrete and charred timber to reduce the embodied carbon of the project, a contemporary interpretation of traditional building techniques on the island.
