Tegula Grove
A former olive grove farmhouse transformed into a sprawling family getaway.
Nestled within the Bandol vineyards of Southern France, the origins of Tegula Grove date back to the 17th century when it served as an olive house. The structure had been amended over the years, creating a series of disconnected additions. We lovingly transformed the home into an ideal family getaway, reconfiguring the kitchen, living room, bedrooms, bathrooms, as well as adding a new master suite to accommodate the clients’ large family.
We retained the original split level design to maintain the buildings’ rustic character and create a cosy and welcoming environment. Inside, we blended the owner’s furniture with simple contemporary banquette tiled seating, an ideal place to repose out of the mid-afternoon sun.
We consciously choose to retain and reuse materials wherever possible to maintain the character of the existing building and reduce the environmental impact of the renovations. Original handmade Provencal parefeuille tiles - previously used on the roof - were repurposed as a floor finish, complemented by the textural quality of reclaimed stone, hand-made zellige tiles, solid timber joinery, and raw wool textiles.
The original doors were retained to frame views out to the rolling hills beyond, leading onto flexible informal gathering spaces for aperitifs, large family dining, or sunning around the pool.
