Golden Stair
A new stair opens the house and unites the volume with light.
The client a music, literature and culture fanatic required less room-count and more contiguous space to relax and focus on his interests. The project reconfigured the entire house and added a floor and a half at the Roof Level and a new rear extension at Ground Level.
Linking the four levels of the house is a new bespoke open tread stair constructed of tulip wood and steel. The warmth of the wood evokes the refinished floor boards while the metallic grey colour of the treads permits the polished concrete floor to visually ricochet throughout the entire house.
The free flowing plan is reinforced with well-considered detailing of the oversized full height doors. South light fills the house and penetrates through the volume in the open stair. Music and art animate the open spaces providing an extra layer of warmth thought-out.
