Antibes
Designing a landscape for family living in the South of France.
Working in collaboration with landscape designer Olivia Rossi, daab have been appointed for the renovation of a family escape in the South of France.
We have approached the project with the house as an intrinsic element of the landscape in which is sits, and taken this as the starting point for the renovation of the property.
Taking cues from the regional vernacular, we designed a series of garden rooms and transition spaces formed by restanque walls and naturalistic planting. A shaded lounge and potager border the house, extending the living spaces to the exterior. These lead on to a limestone-paved pool and sunken snug with a fire pit by which to enjoy the sunshine and afterglow of the evening.
Elsewhere, a terrain de pétanque and olive tree lounge provide a shaded spot to share a game of boules. Throughout, mediterranean planting creates a patchwork of violets and silvered greens to define and harmonise the spaces, which are unveiled in an orchestrated experience upon approaching the house.
