Between the Lines

Rethinking the Battersea tangle to supercharge the role our industrial zones play in a circular economy.

Our self-initiated study is a retrofit approach on an urban scale looking at the fascinating ‘knot of infrastructure’ at the Stewarts Lane Rail depot located within the VNEB OA. The study envisages a coherent long-term plan to link adjacent communities, densify industrial usage and create a new hub of affordable housing.

The site’s rail head has the potential to play a major role in advancing goals for a circular economy, last mile distribution and the ability to create locally. Our proposal will create a new public realm linking three overground stations, will provide new passenger access to Queenstown Road Station and will bring access to a hidden community.

As a Battersea based practice whose office looks onto the site, we believe this site has suffered from disinterest for far too long. Now is the time to acknowledge its importance in a post pandemic London.
